A slew of chances in the first half went by the wayside for Orlando City as CF Montreal capitalized on theirs to seal a 2-0 victory Sunday at Stade Saputo to advance to the second-round round of the MLS Cup playoffs.

Ismael Kone struck first in the 68th minute after finishing a ball from Djordie Milhailovic to slot the ball past keeper Pedro Gallese. Mailhailovic secured the result after converting a stoppage-time penalty after a video review issued the spot kick for a foul inside the box by Joao Moutinho.

It’s the second consecutive year the Lions have been eliminated from the postseason in the first round. Orlando fell to Nashville in 2021 and against New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2020.

“Congratulations to Montreal,โ€ Lions Head Coach Oscar Pareja said after the match. โ€œWe had our chances, especially in the first half. These kinds of games, you have to be decisive. You have to finish.โ€
