Around the City: 7/25/22 – 7/31/22

Did you enjoy the past week? Meh? Same.

Either way, that’s another one in the books as we look forward to the final week of July. Here’s what’s on top this week for Orlando City, Orlando Pride, and OCB.

Orlando City

The Lions are heading into the week fresh off a 1-0 loss to the conference-leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. With refereeing controversy sounding the final moments of the game (what else is new?), Orlando City racked up its’ league-worst 6th home loss of the year, continuing a season-long problem of struggling to defend its’ home turf; they controlled much of the game and rattled off more chances but with just one shot on target all night and a handful of missed opportunities, the Lions find themselves again in the position of trying to find answers for their anemic offense.

On Wednesday, however, they’ll have an opportunity to re-write the narrative of this summer when Orlando hosts the New York Red Bulls in the U.S. Open Cup semi-final — the biggest game of the season to this point.

A win would put the Lions into their first Open Cup final and one step closer to the club’s first trophy since the 2013 USL Pro championship (or 2019 Orlando City Invitational if you’re feeling troll-ish).

After New York, the club will hit the road once more to close out July with a trip to our nation’s capital for a matchup against D.C. United on Sunday.

Orlando Pride

The Pride are back in action after the league-wide off week as they’ll hit the road to take on the KC Current. Seb Hines’ side is looking to end July on a high as Orlando is looking to go undefeated for the month, having not lost yet in three games.

Orlando City B

OCB is coming off a 3-1 loss on Sunday night against Philadelphia Union II and will now get the next few weeks off. Their next game is scheduled for August 7.
