For the first time in the team’s history Orlando City will have two players representing them in this year’s MLS All-Star match.
On Wednesday, it was announced that leading goalscorer Nani became the second Lion to be selected to multiple All-Star games, joining Kaká as the only other Lion to do so. Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese joins the Portuguese winger as he becomes the sixth Orlando City All-Star representative in Club history, alongside Kaká, Cyle Larin, Dom Dwyer, Yoshi Yotún and Nani.
Nani, who currently leads the team with 8 goals scored, has been named to six MLS Teams of the Week so far this year, and most recently being named as MLS Player of the Week. The winger has proved invaluable to the Lions start to the season and now sits at the top of the team’s all-time assist charts with 23 career assists in MLS
Gallese has proved his worth since joining the Lions in 2020, helping shape the redesigned back line and command the team’s defense the best season’s in terms of allowing goals it has ever had. This season, he helped lead the team to their early six match unbeaten run, while racking up four clean sheets through that time. In just 34 games played, Gallese is second on the team in clean sheets all-time, just four behind Joe Bendik in 58 less games played.
The two Lions teammates will join the ranks of the MLS All-Stars to take on the LIGA MX All-Stars on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The game will be broadcast on FS1, Univision, TSN and TVA Sports.
