In what was billed as one of the premier matches of the MLS season thus far, the battle between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference will have to wait.
On Saturday, Major League Soccer announced the Orlando City match against Columbus Crew SC, originally scheduled for Sunday at Exploria Stadium, has been postponed to a future date following two confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the Crew staff.
Earlier on Saturday, one player for Orlando had also tested positive, but the player was isolated from the team with the rest of the Lions testing negative.
“The match was postponed to ensure the health and safety of all players and staff, allowing for further testing and evaluation prior to travel and competition,” the club said in a prepared statement on Saturday.
Orlando also announced that tickets for Sunday’s match will remain valid for the rescheduled date, which will be announced at a later time.
The Lions next scheduled game is against New York City FC on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Exploria Stadium.
