MLS is Back Tournament: Orlando City, Inter Miami headline Group A drawing

Orlando City’s opponents for the MLS is Back Tournament were confirmed Thursday.

The Lions will kick off the summer tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex against expansion side Inter Miami CF in the opening Group A game on July 8.

Kickoff is expected to be at 8 p.m., according to a report from the Miami Herald.

Orlando was also grouped with New York City FC, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire and Nashville SC.

Given teams can only play three group-stage matches and Group A consists of six teams, Orlando will take on Miami, NYCFC and expansion side Nashville.

Kickoff times for those games will be announced at a later date.

The MLS is Back Tournament is expected to run from July 8 to Aug. 11 and all games will be played behind closed-doors.

The top two teams from each group along with the four best third-place finishers will move on to the knockout stage.

All 26-teams will be arriving in Central Florida on June 24. Following the group stage, the Round of 16 will take place from July 25-28. The quarterfinals will be played July 30 – Aug. 1 with the semifinals being played on Aug. 5-6.

VAR will be made available and the national anthem won’t be played prior to kick off.

Matches will count to the regular season with the winner of the summer competition being award $1.1 million and a berth to the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.
