The Lions continued to add players to their roster by utilizing the MLS draft.

University of Virginia forward Daryl Dike was selected by Orlando City as the fifth overall pick during Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft.

“I think we had a great draft and [got] the guys that we wanted,” Orlando City SC EVP of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said. “Dike is a very exciting, young player. One of the youngest players in the draft…Extremely excited that we were able to get him. And with the later picks we were able to get the guys that we wanted at that position and we hope that they come in and show well. We’re very excited to have them.”

Dike, pronounced dee-KAY, 19, made 36 appearances during his time with the Cavaliers,  finishing with 15 goals and nine assists

Prior to the draft, Dike signed a Generation Adidas contract with MLS on Jan. 7.  Players signed to GA deals are not charged against an MLS team’s annual salary budget.

The Lions made three more draft picks in the second round of the draft, selecting midfielder Joey DeZart (Wake Forest) as the 31st pick, defender Johnny Dean (UCF) as the 39th pick and goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Connecticut) as the 44th pick.
