The Orlando Pride were in the game throughout, but a Sam Kerr hat-trick propelled the Chicago Red Stars towards a 3-2 victory on Sunday in front of an announced attendance of 3,906 at Exploria Stadium.
A goal in the 7th minute from Kerr opened the scoring when she capitalized on a poor back pass from Morgan Reid to put Chicago (4-4-2, 14 points) up early on.
Orlando equalized in the 22nd minute when Chioma Ubogagu pounced on a heavy touch from goalkeeper Emily Boyd and scored into an open net. That scoreline held until first-half stoppage time, when Kerr once again scored off a Pride turnover, this time from Haley Kopmeyer, to make it 2-1 just before the break.
Kerr made it 3-1 in the 55th minute after skillfully turning Toni Pressley around and slotting the ball past Kopmeyer.
Orlando pulled one back in the 79th minute when Camila was tripped up in the box and Marta blasted home a penalty, but it was not enough to get a result as the Pride fell 3-2.
The Pride remains winless at home in the season, falling to 0-5-0.
