The Orlando Pride grabbed an early lead, but the Portland Thorns pulled towards a 3-1 victory on Saturday in front of an announced attendance of 4,369 at Orlando City Stadium.
A goal in the 10th minute from Toni Pressley, who made her season debut for Orlando, opened the scoring when she headed a ball from a corner kick from Carson Pickett past Britt Eckerstorm.
Portland (2-0-2, 8 points) equalized in the 28th minute when Dagny Brynjarsdottir pounced on a rebound off the post, slotting the ball past Haley Kopmeyer. The Thorns took the lead in the 36th minute when Andressinha sailed a free-kick toward the top-right corner of the net.
Caitlin Foord made it 3-1 in the 57th minute after rocketing a volley inside the box.
The Thorns could have furthered their lead when a penalty kick was awarded in the 65th minute, but Kopmeyer stopped Foord from converting the penalty before stopping the ensuing rebound shot.
It was Portland’s second victory of the season — both of which came against Orlando, the first on April 14 during a 2-0 win at Orlando City Stadium.
The Pride remains winless in the season, falling to 0-5-1 in the season under first-year head coach Marc Skinner.
