The Lions had their slew of chances but in the end, it didn’t warrant the three points on Saturday.
Nani scored his fifth goal in his last four games as Orlando City played to a 1-1 draw against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium.
The Portuguese star gave the Lions (3-3-3, 12 points) the lead in the 18th minute when a failed clearance Maxime Chanot, off a ball from Ruan, landed in front of Nani to strike the ball from close for the 1-0 lead.
A giveaway in the 51st minute from the Lions saw Maxi Moralez produce a shot from outside the box, hitting off Brian Rowe then off the post, finding Brazilian forward Heber to pounce on the rebound to tie the game.
Nani could have doubled the lead in the 26th minute when attempted chip over Sean Johnson was saved by Chanot. The Lions officially looked to double the lead in the 34th minute when a goal from Tesho Akindele was rescinded by VAR.
In the 68th minute, a ball from Ruan connected with an open Dom Dwyer only to header the ball wide of the goal.
Goalkeeper Brian Rowe finished with four saves.
Orlando City has three wins in its last six games of the 2019 MLS campaign.
Saturday’s result extended Orlando winless streak against the Pigeons to six games.
