Orlando City concede fourth straight loss in defeat to New York City FC

MLS: Orlando City SC at New York City FC

Several shots off the post. A missed penalty.

Missed opportunities led to Orlando City falling 3-0 to New York City FC (8-3-3, 27 points) Saturday night at Yankee Stadium.

A two-goal performance from Ismael Tajouri-Shradi and a late goal from Maxi Moralez secured NYCFC’s unbeaten streak at home this season.

A high-press used by the Lions in the first half saw Josue Colman almost giving the Lions the early lead when his shot from distance in the 30th minute hit off the right post.

In the 35th minute, however, Tajouri-Shradi gave the home side the lead when he beat Donny Toia in the box and struck from close range.

The Lions (6-6-1, 19 points) were in position to secure an equalizing goal when Chris Mueller was brought down inside the box in the 49th minute, but Sacha Kljestan’s spot kick bounced off the bottom-right post.

Tajouri-Shradi doubled the lead in the 79th minute when his free kick from outside Orlando’s corner box found its way into the net. Moralez made it 3-0 in the 87th minute after a pair of shots from David Villa hit off the post before Moralez scored on the rebound.

The Lions travel to take on NPSL side Miami United FC on Wednesday during fourth round U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m.
