Pride v Sky Blue FC (1 of 1)

A brace from Alex Morgan and Marta along with Dani Weatherholt’s first-ever professional goal catapulted the Orlando Pride to a 5-0 victory over Sky Blue FC on Saturday night in front of 5,243 at Orlando City Stadium.

“I thought tonight was our first complete performance,” said Morgan after the game. “Just starting it off with a goal early in the first half, I felt like we controlled the game from start to finish… it was great momentum from the win earlier this week. We stepped up big.”

Morgan opened the scoring in the fourth minute after capitalizing off a pass from Marta to strike the ball past Kailen Sheridan. Morgan scored her second goal on the 47th minute after a ball from Jasmyne Spencer found Morgan to strike the ball from close range.

Dani Weatherholt netted her first professional goal in the 43rd minute after a play from Camila saw the Brazilian fend off two Sky Blue defenders, and quickly serving a low- ball cross to an unmarked Weatherholt to slot the ball into goal.

Marta capped the scoring for the Pride, scoring the team’s fourth and fifth goals in the 53rd and 58th minute.

Maddy Evans, who announced her retirement from soccer earlier this week, was named to the Pride bench and entered in the 62nd minute for Weatherholt.

After Saturday’s game, Morgan now has five goals in her last four games and her opening goal was the fastest goal in team history.

The Pride to fourth place in the NWSL standings, improving to 7-6-5 with 26 points.

The Pride are back in action on Saturday when they visit the Boston Breakers. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. on the Go90 app.
