Orlando City legend Dom Dwyer is back in the City Beautiful.

The Lions announced on Tuesday Sporting Kansas City has agreed to trade its star forward to Orlando City in exchange for $1.6 million in allocation money with $700 thousand of which will be incentives.

“Dom adds tremendous strength to our attack. He brings speed, energy and strong technical ability,” Orlando City general manager Niki Budalic said in a statement. “He has grown as a player over the years into one who is a threat whenever he’s on the field.”

The deal is broken down like this: Orlando City will send $400,000 in General Allocation Money and $500,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, plus up to $700,000 in future Allocation Money based on the player’s performance, according to club’s press release.

Dwyer played for Orlando City on-loan from Sporting KC during the 2013 USL season. During his time with the Lions, the forward tallied 15 goals in 13 league appearances, including a four-goal performance during the 2013 USL championship against the Charlotte Eagles, which Orlando City won 7-4.

According to Paul Tenorio of FourFourTwo, the Lions would have to work out a new deal if they plan to keep Dwyer long term.

A bit more information: No new deal for Dom Dwyer has yet been discussed, per a source. So Orlando City still has work to do on that end.

Orlando City CEO Alex Leitao said in a Facebook Live segment that Dwyer will fly to Orlando on Tuesday. Dwyer will train with the team on Wednesday, which will follow with a press conference.

Dwyer, 26, recently played for the United States men’s national team in the 2017 Gold Cup.
