Chicago Fire routs Orlando City

A hat-trick from David Accam led the way for the Chicago Fire during a 4-0 thrashing of Orlando City on Saturday night at Toyota Park.

Accam secured his double in the first 10 minutes of the game, scoring in the third and eighth minute before sealing his hat-trick in the 63rd minute when he converted a penalty kick past goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

Nemanja Nikolic recorded his league-leading 14th goal of the season after scoring in the 52nd minute.

“First and foremost the energy. Just the energy in the first half, we played off the bar,” Orlando City coach Jason Kreis said. “Obviously we’ve had a very difficult travel week and we knew we were up against a massive challenge. In the end we just didn’t have it.”

Midfielder Richie Laryea, who was drafted by the Lions in 2016, made his MLS debut after entering the game as a substitute for Ricardo Kaka in the 64th minute.

Orlando City (7-6-5, 26 points) have one win in its last 11 league games.

The Lions finish their road trip with a visit to Rio Tinto Stadium on Friday for a game against Real Salt Lake at 9:30 p.m. ET.
