Orlando Pride falls to North Carolina Courage

The Orlando Pride’s search for its first win of the season continues.

Goals from Jessica McDonald, Samantha Mewis, Lynn Williams led the North Carolina Courage to a 3-1 victory over the Pride on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

McDonald got the Courage (3-0-0, 9 points) on the scoreboard early after striking on a rebound in the sixth minute. Camila equalized the score for the Pride in the 27th minute after a strike from distance hit the bottom-right corner.

The Courage retook the lead in the 33rd minute after a handball on Laura Alleway was called, leaving Mewis to convert the penalty kick for the 2-1 lead before halftime. Williams capped the scoring for the Courage in the 70th minute after striking a volley from 15 yards out.

Brazilian star Marta started for the first time this season for the Pride.

The Pride (0-2-1, 1 points) are back on the road to take on FC Kansas City on Sunday, May 7 at 6 p.m.
