A two-goal performance from Cyle Larin’s secured Orlando City a 2-1 victory over New York City FC on Saturday at Yankee Stadium.
Larin opened up the scoring in the 32nd minute after Scott Sutter’s cross found the Canadian to strike the ball from close range past NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson. The Orlando City forward doubled the lead when headed a ball from Donny Toia past the goalkeeper in the 51st minute for his sixth goal of the season.
David Villa’s goal in the 74th minute cut the lead for the Lions, and could of equalized the score in stoppage time, but Lions goalkeeper Joe Bendik denied the Spanish striker from converting from close range.
Scott Sutter recorded his second consecutive assist of the season after previously setting up Will Johnson’s opening goal last week against the LA Galaxy.
Orlando City (5-1-0) sits two points clear atop the Eastern Conference table with 15 points and two games in hand.
The Lions are back at Orlando City Stadium on Saturday when they host the Colorado Rapids at 4 p.m. The game will broadcast on Unimas.
