Orlando Pride signs Brazilian star Marta

The Orlando Pride made its biggest signing to date.

Heading into the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League, the Pride announced on Friday the signing of Brazilian star Marta to a two-year contract with an option for a third.

“We are incredibly proud to bring Marta to Orlando, and I am personally very excited as I have been a fan of her for many years,” Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão said in a statement. “Our technical team worked hard to add the best, most accomplished women’s soccer player in the world to the roster.

“We started the Pride to win, and bringing Marta to Orlando is a testament to our belief in this team, our supporters and the passion for soccer in Central Florida,” Leitão added.

The five-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year last played for Swedish side FC Rosengård, where she led her side to the 2014 and 2015 Damallsvenskan title.

The Marta to Orlando Pride was first reported by Women’s Soccer Weekly
