Orlando City’s first road game of the season against the New England Revolution has been postponed due to extreme cold weather.
The Lions were scheduled to take on the Revolution on Saturday at Gillette Stadium at 2 p.m. The forecast this weekend had temperatures below 20 degrees by kickoff.
The rescheduled match is set for Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
Having the weekend off has its pros for the Lions. On one note, it spares Jason Kreis’ team a game for the time being given team captain Ricardo Kaka is out for roughly six weeks.
From another perspective, the rescheduled game on September comes during the final stages of the regular season, meaning Orlando would play six games during that month with four of those six being consecutive road matches.
The first game of September will be played during the FIFA international break, which could also mean some players could miss out a game with playoff implications on the line.
The Lions return home to Orlando City Stadium when they host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m.
