New York Red Bulls II trounce Orlando City B out of USL playoffs

After clinching the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference in the regular season finale, Orlando City B were knocked out of the first round of the USL Playoffs, falling 4-0 to New York Red Bulls II on Sunday at Red Bull Arena.

“When I look back on this season, there is a lot to be proud of. We’ve moved on Tony Rocha and Mikey Ambrose to the first team, and I think there’s a few more guys with that potential. And we’ve made the playoffs,” OCB head coach Anthony Pulis said. “But right now I’m disappointed. Credit to the Red Bulls, we got beat by the better team tonight.”

Aaron Long gave New York the lead in the 32nd minute after finishing off a set piece. Vincent Bezecourt doubled the lead in the 59th minute before Brandon Allen made it 3-0 in the 67th minute.

OCB went down 10 men after Harrison Heath was issued a straight red card in the 62nd minute.

Allen secured his brace to cap NYRBII’s scoring after heading home a service from Bezecourt.

The 2016 season marked the return of Orlando City to the USL after previously playing there from 2011-2014, which saw the Lions secure two championships. OCB entered the USL this year as the second team of Orlando City’s MLS club.
