Orlando City rallies to draw Columbus Crew

Orlando City closed its three-game road trip with a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Mapfre Stadium.

Columbus opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Toni Tchani easily dribbled past defender Seb Hines and placed a shot past goalkeeper Joe Bendik. After dominating the first half, Ola Kamara doubled the Crew’s lead to 2-0 after converting a penalty kick before halftime.

In the 65th minute, Kevin Molino managed to score from a perfectly taken corner kick from Kaka. The Lions took advantage of their momentum when Larin headed a ball from Molino to equalize the scoring in the 70th minute.

Team captain Ricardo Kaká came off the bench after missing the previous three games, entering for Julio Baptista in the 60th minute.

On paper, The Lions (4-5-11, 23 points) had 40 percent of possession while Columbus dominated with 60 percent (3-7-10, 19 points). Both teams had 18 shot attempts.

Brek Shea did not travel with the team due to a possible minor knee injury.

Orlando City take on the New England Revolution on Sunday, July 31 at Camping World Stadium. It will be Jason Kreis’ first game since being named head coach earlier this week. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
