For the first time this season, Orlando City suffered its first shutout loss while also suffering its worst loss of the 2016 season.
Goals from Walker Zimmerman, Michael Barrios, Matt Hedges and Fabian Castillo powered FC Dallas 4-0 over the Lions at Toyota Stadium on Monday night.
Zimmerman put Oscar Pareja’s team on the scoresheet early on after scoring in the 11th minute before Barrios doubled the lead in the 21st minute after finishing a ball from Maximiliano Urruti.
Halftime substitutions for Orlando City (4-4-8, 20 points) failed to create any chance of a comeback when Servando Carrasco and Sebastian Hines entered for Ricardo Kaka and Tommy Redding.
Mauro Diaz’s notched his second assist of the night after his free kick connected with Hedges in the 61st minute. Castillo capped the scoring in stoppage time.
Dallas improved to 10-5-4 with 34 points, reaching the Western Conference summit.
Orlando City will have a quick turnaround as it hosts the Houston Dynamo on Friday at Camping World Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
